Son of Elijah Mount Lansing and Deborah Smalley, born in Pittsfield Twp, Washtenaw Co., Mich., Feb.19, 1944. On July 23,1863, he enlisted in Co.H, 20 Mich.Inf., and was taken prisoner May 12,1864, and confined in Andersonville until the following Dec. In Ann Arbor, Sept.5,1866, he married his step-sister Nellie Maynard. He managed the mercantile business of William McPherson & Sons of Howell, Mich.
